Rubber Membrane Keyswitches

Just about the only advantage of rubber membrane key switches is that they are very inexpensive to manufacture. They don't seem to result in particularly accurate velocity measurements, and they certainly wear out faster than most other key switch varieties. Since they tend to be the achilles heel of mass produced keyboards, and DIYers typically want to build something insanely great, they will likely only be suitable for early prototypes. Rubber membrane switches are also responsible for the lack of tactile and short lifetime of modern mass produced computer keyboards, and have turned quality mechanical keyswitch keyboards into an oddity.
